*Note: Ni + Cr ≤ 0.35% maximum according to JIS G4051 specifications . Actual mill test certificates (MTC) are provided with each shipment to ensure full traceability.*
Our S45C tubes deliver consistent mechanical performance ideal for structural automotive components. S45C is a medium carbon steel where the number "45" indicates a representative carbon content of 0.45% .
| Property | Annealed Condition | Quenched & Tempered Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | ≥ 570 MPa | ≥ 690 MPa |
| Yield Strength | ≥ 345 MPa | ≥ 490 MPa |
| Elongation | ≥ 20% | ≥ 17% |
| Reduction of Area | ≥ 45% | — |
| Impact Energy | ≥ 33 J/cm² | — |
| Hardness | 167 – 269 HBW | 201 – 269 HBW |
Note: The annealed condition is typically supplied for bushing manufacturing to ensure optimal machinability .
To ensure optimal machinability and formability for bushing production, our S45C tubes are supplied in the annealed condition. The standard heat treatment processes for S45C are as follows :
| Heat Treatment | Temperature Range | Cooling Method |
|---|---|---|
| Annealing | Approx. 810°C | Furnace cooling |
| Normalizing | 820 – 870°C | Air cooling |
| Quenching | 820 – 870°C | Water cooling |
| Tempering | 550 – 650°C | Rapid cooling |
Note: Rapid cooling after tempering is necessary to avoid temper brittleness .
We can customize the heat treatment condition (normalized, quenched & tempered, or stress relieved) based on your final application requirements.
S45C is a high-quality medium-carbon steel (fully killed steel manufactured by electric furnace, open hearth, or pure oxygen converter) with uniform metallurgical structure and no structural defects . It offers the following benefits for automotive bushing manufacturing:
| Feature | Benefit |
|---|---|
| High Strength | With a minimum yield strength of 345 MPa (annealed), it withstands high loads in suspension and chassis systems . |
| Excellent Machinability | Ideal for high-volume CNC machining of bushings, sleeves, and spacers. Spheroidizing treatment can further improve machinability . |
| Good Wear Resistance | Medium carbon content (0.42-0.48%) provides excellent natural wear resistance for dynamic applications . |
| Consistent Hardness | Annealed condition ensures uniform machining and extended tool life . |
| Surface Finish Options | Available with phosphate coating or sandblasting (SA 2.5) for enhanced rubber-to-metal bonding during vulcanization . |
| Dimensional Stability | Excellent resistance to deformation and cracking during service . |
Our JIS G4051 S45C tubes are widely used in the following applications:
Suspension Bushings – Inner and outer sleeves for rubber/metal bonded bushings in control arms, stabilizer links, and engine mounts
Engine Mount Sleeves – Precision spacers for vibration dampening systems
Chassis Components – Structural sleeves and collars
Hydraulic Cylinders – Medium-duty cylinder barrels
Shafts & Gears – Axles, spindles, piston rods, and gear components
Fasteners – Bolts, nuts, screws, and connecting rods

Q: Is S45C the same as SAE 1045 or CK45?
A: Yes, S45C is the Japanese standard equivalent to American SAE 1045 and European CK45 (1.1191) / C45 grades .
Q: What is the meaning of "45" in S45C?
A: The number "45" in S45C represents a carbon content of approximately 0.45% (specifically 0.42-0.48%) . As carbon content increases, strength (yield stress) increases, while toughness (impact resistance) tends to decrease .
Q: Can these tubes be used for rubber-to-metal bonding?
A: Absolutely. We can supply tubes with phosphate-coated (zinc or manganese phosphate, 2-5μm) or sandblasted (SA 2.5) surface finishes to enhance rubber adhesion for bonded bushing applications with elastomers such as EPDM, NBR, and VMQ .
Q: What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
A: We offer flexible quantities. Please inquire for specific requirements.
